The Dancing Grandpa Can See!

dancing man2Often, when visiting Pastor Val?s church in Sous Savanne, the sight of a little old man in front of the church dancing away blesses us all.  His lack of vision does not restrain his joy. His name is Monsieur (Mr.) Cineus ? and we look forward to seeing him when are going about our ?business? in the village.

Marianne Lako, program co-director for Haiti HFI recalls, ?You can imagine our excitement to see Monsieur Cineus come to the medical clinic for consultation.  When he came to the pharmacy, I gladly filled the prescription for him. While working on this, I felt a small tug in my heart to ask the Optical team if they could see him.  Almost blind, he could not freely move from chair to chair without his plastic PVC stick to help him.  Without hesitation, they agreed to see him, even though their patient list was full.  Due to the overwhelming response to Hope Force?s first optical clinic in Haiti, Monsieur Cineus was the last optical patient of the day.

When it was his turn, they measured his eyes and soon confirmed the fact that he desperately needed glasses.  The prescription -8 meant that he was basically blind without the aid of strong glasses.  The bigger miracle was that the team happened to have the correct lenses on hand.  When Monsieur Cineus put on his new glasses, his smile said it all: he could see us!  We asked him if we could take a picture and he responded with a welcoming, bright smile.  Afterward, we showed him the picture and his excitement was something to behold?a priceless moment!?

It has been an amazing privilege to partner with our visiting team, expressing God?s great love to the ?dancing man? of Sous Savanne.
