About us
Why the world needs a compassionate response to crisis and disaster
Hope Force International (HFI) is a distinctly Christian response to disasters around the world, bringing the hope of Jesus Christ to survivors in their greatest times of need.
Throughout history, the failure to cope with natural disasters has brought devastating consequences, from countless lives lost to ruined homes, businesses, and economies. Tragically, it is often the poorest of the poor who are the most vulnerable.
Around the world, over 60 million people a year are affected by disasters, and disasters have only been on the rise for the past 30-40 years.
As never before, the world needs trained disaster responders to walk alongside survivors. While many people want to help, very few are prepared to make a difference and bring hope to devastated areas. This is why Hope Force was created: to provide a pathway for caring individuals to effectively help in the face of disaster.
Anyone who wants to help deserves a simple path to do so, including everyday individuals who are not doctors, nurses, or even first responders like firemen and paramedics. Everyone is needed and can make a meaningful impact on the lives of survivors,
We emphasize âthe ministry of presenceââwalking sensitively and appropriately alongside those affected by crisis or disaster. Survivors donât just need physical help, but emotional and spiritual support, too. Our Chaplain team leads the spiritual care in disaster zones while every âblue shirtâ (what we call our Reservists) works to physically help in the name of Jesus.
In every disaster we respond to, Hope Force promises:
- To adequately prepare our responders through training and equipping.
- Swift response to meet disasters in their most crucial phase.
- Efficient and effective relief work, saving as many lives and homes as we can.
- To build relationships with local contacts who can help us make the greatest impact on their community.
HFI’s leadership is comprised of individuals who are committed to the Gospel and to loving others as Jesus would. They work hard to apply their expertise to inspire, equip, and mobilize thousands of trained volunteers into areas of crisis around the world.

Jack and Cherie Minton
Co-Founders
If thereâs one thing Jack and Cherie Minton are passionate about, itâs loving others in Jesusâ name. For decades before founding Hope Force International in 2003, the Mintons served in medical missions and disaster relief ministries that only furthered their burden to help the vulnerable and hurting. Today, they lead the HFI team with expertise, discernment, and Christ-centered vision to make the greatest impact on the greatest needs in disaster areas around the world.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long has Hope Force International been doing disaster relief work?
Hope Force International has been doing disaster relief work since 2003.
What is the difference between a Reservist and a Volunteer?
A Reservist has successfully completed our training course and is eligible for rapid deployment within 24-48 hours after a disaster event. A volunteer has not yet taken the training but may be eligible for deployment weeks and/or months after the initial event, through our recovery/rebuild phases.  For details, please email deployment@hopeforce.org
What skills or experience do I need to volunteer?
You donât need any specialized skills to volunteer. Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and from all walks of life, with skills ranging from construction to administration. Age-wise, our volunteers consist of young people to seniors. Certain rebuild teams may require specialized skills (i.e., roofers, electricians, carpenters, plumbers). The nature of disaster response can be grueling and conditions can be challenging (i.e. sleeping on the floor, long days in hot and humid weather, etc).
For more information, please contact deployment@hopeforce.org.
How can I get more information about deploying?
Please email us directly at deployment@hopeforce.org for more information on deploying as a Volunteer or Reservist.
Do I have to be a Christian to volunteer or take the training?
You do not have to be a Christian to volunteer or take the training. We are a faith-based organization and as such we operate following Christian values. HFI stresses the importance of the relational, emotional and spiritual aspects of effectively meeting the needs of those who have suffered loss.
