overview Option 1
When disaster strikes, survivors are often overwhelmed and unsure of how to start recovering. Meanwhile, those who want to help don’t know where to begin or how to make an impact. Hope Force International is an organization that addresses the need on both sides of the equation.
hope force facts
- Founded in 2003 to provide immediate relief to survivors in the days after disaster strikes.
- Has 3,500 trained volunteers (Reservists) who are prepared to deploy at a moment’s notice and to serve survivors in the field.
- Reservists go into devastated communities and find survivors whose homes need saving before further damage sets in and the structure is destroyed. The team does relief work like:
- Mucking out homes
- Tarping roofs to protect from rain
- Replacing drywall
- Hope Force is also involved in long-term recovery
- Restoring damaged homes
- Building homes to replace those that are destroyed
- Hope Force has a trained chaplain team to support survivors emotionally and spiritually.
- Reservist teams are currently on the ground responding to hurricane-affected areas in North Carolina, Florida, and Mexico.
- Even when the immediate disaster relief work is finished, Hope Force often helps with long-term rebuilding efforts in communities with years of recovery ahead.
There is so much need right now from all the hurricanes, and we need you! You don’t need construction experience – just a willing heart, able body, and a listening ear to comfort survivors that you meet.
If you’re interested in becoming a Reservist and helping in the Carolinas, Florida, or Mexico, Hope Force has an easy online training that you can take to be qualified to deploy. You can also give at hopeforce.org to help keep the relief work going in the coming months and years.
overview Option 2
Hope Force International was founded in 2003 to bring hope and tangible help to those impacted by natural disasters. The organization has trained approximately 3,500 volunteers, providing them with the skills and resources to serve effectively in times of crisis. When disasters strike, people often want to help but don’t know where to start. Hope Force creates a clear pathway for willing responders, empowering them to be hands-on in relief efforts.
Disaster survivors are often overwhelmed, unsure of where to begin their recovery. Hope Force steps in to provide immediate support, from mucking out and tarping roofs to offering emotional and spiritual care. Their presence is a source of hope and stability in the aftermath of disasters, and they work alongside survivors to help them actively engage in their own recovery.
Currently, Hope Force is on the ground responding to hurricane-affected areas in North Carolina, Florida, and Mexico. They have trained chaplains available to support survivors emotionally and spiritually, while also preparing to help with long-term rebuilding efforts as soon as conditions allow.
There is so much need right now from Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton, and Hurricane John in Mexico, and Hope Force needs all the help they can get. If you’re interested in becoming a Reservist doing hands-on work in the field, they have an easy online training that you can take to be qualified to deploy. You can also give at hopeforce.org to help keep the relief work going in the coming months and years.
stories to highlight
Laura and Sue
Both had their homes flooded by recent hurricanes. Laura’s home was flooded by Hurricane Irma in 2017 but Hope Force Reservists helped save it, making a lifelong impact on Laura and her family. Fast forward to 2024 and Laura is now a Reservist herself! She is serving others who are in the same shoes she once walked in, like Sue whose home was damaged by Hurricane Helene in 2024. Watch the video below of Laura and Sue to see the impact that YOUR generosity makes on survivors.
"Martha Stewart" the cat saved two lives
We have heard so many stories of tragedy that meets hope. One in particular that was super inspiring was how Martha Stewart saved the lives of two people, Russell and Ann! Ann had recently had a heart attack two weeks before the hurricane and made it back home the night of the storm. At about 2 a.m. one of her animals jumped off the bed and onto the floor and they heard a splash! Ann woke Russell and they discovered their house was being flooded. They were able to escape along with their pets and had it not been for their cat who they had named Martha Stewart, they would likely have not made it. So truly, Martha Stewart saved their lives!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you don’t find what you’re looking for, email us at info@hopeforce.org.
Hope Force International has been doing disaster relief work since 2003.
A Reservist has successfully completed our 2-day training, and is eligible for rapid deployment within 24-48 hours after a disaster event. A volunteer is someone who has not yet taken the training but may be eligible for deployment weeks and/or months after the initial event, through our recovery/rebuild phases. For details, please email deployment@hopeforce.org
You don’t need any specialized skills to volunteer. Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and from all walks of life, with skills ranging from construction to administration. Age-wise, our volunteers consist of young people to seniors. Certain rebuild teams may require specialized skills (i.e., roofers, electricians, carpenters, plumbers). The nature of disaster response can be gruelling and conditions can be challenging (i.e. sleeping on the floor, long days in hot and humid weather, etc).
For more information, please contact deployment@hopeforce.org
We generally ask that children be at least 16 years old to participate with their parent(s) in a deployment, but there can be exceptions depending on the nature of the deployment. Please contact us at deployment@hopeforce.org for more details.
Please email us directly at deployment@hopeforce.org for more information on deploying as a Volunteer or Reservist.
To deploy in the immediate aftermath of a disaster (within 24-48 hours), we require that our volunteers successfully complete the HFI Disaster Response Intensive training. Opportunities to serve as a non-trained volunteer are available on a case-by-case basis. This depends on the severity of the disaster and a number of other variables. For rebuild teams, we often accept volunteers who have not yet attended our training, depending on the specific deployment. Please contact our Deployment Department at deployment@hopeforce.org for further details.
You do not have to be a Christian to volunteer or take the training. We are a faith-based organization and as such we operate following Christian values. HFI stresses the importance of the relational, emotional and spiritual aspects of effectively meeting the needs of those who have suffered loss.
