April 25, 2015 marked a moment of unimaginable pain for the people of Nepal. A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck just before noon, toppling temples that had stood for centuries, flattening entire communities, and claiming the lives of nearly 9,000 people. More than 22,000 others were injured, and countless families were left grieving and displaced.
As the world watched in disbelief, Hope Force International responded.
The Earthquake That Shook a Nation
The Gorkha Earthquake, as it’s known, was Nepal’s deadliest natural disaster in over 80 years. It triggered avalanches on Mount Everest, destroyed more than half a million homes, and left deep physical and emotional scars across the country. Hospitals were overwhelmed, and access to remote villages was nearly impossible due to landslides and collapsed infrastructure.
But in the days that followed, a skilled and compassionate force stepped in.
Our Response: Hope in Action
Just days after the quake, one of the first teams from Hope Force was on the ground, bringing medical support, supplies, and a listening ear to those who had lost everything. Among that team was Marianne, a dedicated responder whose heart was moved by the resilience of the people she met.
Since that first trip, Marianne has returned every year, serving faithfully and deepening relationships with local partners and families. Her unwavering commitment is a reflection of Hope Force’s mission: to bring compassionate action to those affected by disaster and chronic need.
We Never Left
What began as a crisis response has grown into a long-term commitment.
