From the Chaplain's Desk

Are you interested in serving alongside Hope Force as a chaplain?

Luke 7:22-23 is a lively scripture, which gives us a strong sense of Jesus’ ministry. John the Baptist’s followers were sent to Jesus to ask if He was “the one to come.” Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard:  the blind receive sight, the lame walk…. and the Good News is being preached to the poor.”chuck

This statement makes clear to me that there are “two hands” of the Gospel… meeting physical AND spiritual needs are strong components to any ministry opportunity. The "ministry of presence" allows us to “come alongside” individuals to help them on to the next step in their lives.

We have a growing cadre of Chaplains and Emotional Spiritual Care workers among our Reservists, who prove that needed spiritual touch as our teams muck out houses, repair roofs and rebuild homes. There are nearly 300 Reservists who have expressed interest in this area.

In addition, throughout the history of our partnership, Hope Force has deployed hundreds of Emotional and Spiritual caregivers into The Salvation Army's ranks upon their request-- opening an even broader opportunity of service for our chaplains.

We would like to continue building this core, which usually requires additional training to be qualified to work as ESC workers or Chaplains. If you are interested, and would like to improve your skills and be prepared to work in this area, I would be happy to help you navigate through the training process needed.

The stories of changed lives are most compelling. We have been given the honor of “coming alongside” survivors at a time of their greatest need. We need your help, and would love to facilitate the process for you.
